Presentation Secondary School

Recreational Badminton is offered in the school every Thursday at lunch. This is a very popular activity welcoming all year groups and all abilities to come and play.

The Badminton team have been very successful over the years. Our U16 and U19 teams are currently Kerry champions while our U16s are Munster champions and represented the Provence in the All Irelands in March, finishing second in the competition.

In this academic 2021/22 year we have both  Junior and Senior football teams. At the moment we are busy training and preparing for the annual Munster competitions.

Presentation Listowel has a long association with Post Primary Schools’ Basketball. The school competes at Senior (U19), Cadette (U16) Junior (Second Year) and Minor (First Year) in the South West Region (Kerry , Limerick, Clare). Success at this level leads to participation in the All Ireland Play-Off with the ultimate prize of a trip to the National Basketball Arena ,Tallaght, Dublin for the national finals.

Over the years Pres Listowel has garnered over 25 national titles at all levels. Our Senior A teams from 1993-1996 won an incredible 4-in-a- row All Ireland titles as well as two National A Cup crowns. These teams represented Ireland at the World Challenge Tournament in Clearwater, Florida in 1993 and also travelled to play top AAU teams in San Francisco and New York in July 1996. In 1999 our U16s completed the All Ireland A League and Cup Double.

Inspired by this our U16 team would emulate this League and Cup Double in 2002 and qualify to represent Ireland at the World Schools’ Championship in Goiás, Brazil. This highly talented team also travelled to Cairo, Egypt for a series of matches.

In 2003 our First Years won the All Ireland League title and so represented Ireland at the Bam FIBA competition where they played the champions of Spain, England and Poland. This team later went on to win the U16 National League and Cup Double in 2007.

Four players have been honoured by Basketball Ireland for the prestigious as Irish Player of the Year Award: Patricia Fitzell (1993), Dara Barrett (1996) Maire Guiney (1999) and Andrina Carmody 2005.

Many players have played for Ireland with distinction at U16, U18 and Senior International level.

After a shortened league campaign due to postponements and harsh winter for pitches, Presentation Secondary School Listowel played Desmond College in Newcastlewest on the 19th of May in the junior division final in Shannonside League.
With a young squad, we went behind early in the first half but fought back to level matters with Hannah Healy deflected a goal just before half time. Presentation went on to dominate the second half with goals from Aishling Kelly and Máiréad McKenna. Aishling’s 35 yeard free kick into the top corner was the pick of the bunch. Final score 3:1.
Great performances all round from a group of exceptional players who are all underage again next year.
